Evan Bayh's father was a very popular US Senator who made a run for the White House in 1976. Even Bayh spent 12 years in DC as a US Senator, the last few of which he was the toast of the town, what with other Congressmen and lobbyists catapulting hookers and blow and chocolate-covered gold dubloons through his window to please him and nudge him to vote in their favor. And for several years he has been somewhat of a golden-boy favorite to perhaps accede to the presidency, despite not once saying or doing anything even remotely remarkable.
Which means, of course, it will be a joy to watch in a few years when he plays the whole "Washington Outsider" card when he begins his bid for the White House. "Golly, I don't know how they do things in Washington, but I need to go bring them some common sense!!" He'll drive around a field in Indiana in a truck, for instance. His "I got frustrated and disgusted with Congress!" routine will be especially popular with the crowd which insists on being so stupid as to repeatedly fall for the politician who claims to hate all things Beltway, yet is selling his soul to get there. Godspeed!
