IU Hoosiers won the NCAA tournament. Angelo Pizzo and David Anspaugh, writers of "Hoosiers", skipped the Oscars ceremony which was held on the same night as the championship. Pretty good year.
(To be fair, Pizzo and Anspaugh who had been previously nominated for "Breaking Away" were not nominated for best original screenplay. Instead the nominating committee decided "Crocodile Dundee" was a better script than "Hoosiers". Perhaps a "Fack Youse" in order for the members of the academy?)
