| This morning, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) raised the partisan divide over the debt ceiling standoff to a whole new level when he said that any deal is unlikely as long as President Obama is in office. “I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is unattainable,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. Yet in the same statement, McConnell also insisted that Republicans will “do the responsible thing and ensure the government doesn’t default on its obligations.”Obviously, according to McConnell, between now and August 2 exactly one thing has to happen so that we don't default. But I don't know how he's going to pull it off, since, as I've written many times, assassinations are yet another thing my generation sucks at.
