The Right is tinkled more pink now that some former assistant of John Lennon's has come out and said Lennon would've voted for Reagan in 1980, were he an American citizen. Let's even forget that here's a guy looking to get his 15 minutes of fame to cash in, and whether or not his statements are even remotely true.
"He's one of us!!" You can hear Sean Hannity say, thrilled with snagging a Beatle, harrumphing that Reagan was so awesome even the most radical, left-wing of artists could fall under his spell of conservatism.
That is, of course, insane. I think it shows how batshit the GOP has become by the fact that exactly nobody should really be surprised by the idea that Lennon could've liked Reagan. At that time, nobody was happy with Carter, and Reagan was a charismatic ex-actor from Hollywood...who, as we've pointed out many times, was in no way even remotely close to what the GOP is today. It's hard to guess who would be more horrified with what the Right has become so quickly after his presidency than Reagan. So to now claim John Lennon as some sort of champion of the 2011 GOP is laughable at best. Well, also at most.
