"You're Mickey Mantle, Goddammit!"

I've mentioned several times, including HERE, how great the movie 61* is, and it's occurred to me that while this is the 50th anniversary of that historic season, I haven't noticed the Yankees celebrating it at all.  It's a long season; I wonder if they have something planned as the season progresses?

The Yankees are honoring the 50th anniversary of Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's single season home run record on September 23, presumably because it's Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen's birthday:
The New York Yankees will hold a special pregame ceremony on Friday, September 23, to honor the 50th anniversary of Roger Maris setting a then-Major League record with 61 home runs in 1961.

Joining the Yankees for the day’s celebration will be the families of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, as well as former teammates.

The group will be introduced as part of an on-field ceremony emceed by actor Billy Crystal. In addition, Roger Maris’ bat as well as the 61st home run ball – on loan from the Baseball Hall of Fame – will on the field during the ceremony.
As I've said a million times, I highly recommend Billy Crystal's great flick 61*.  Also, apparently Sal Durante, the dude who caught the ball, is gonna be there, which is pretty cool.

Also, how the fuck did the notoriously clean-living Maris outlive the notoriously NOT clean-living Mantle?  Life really isn't fair, is it?
