More Downton Abbey (Really, I Need Help)

Throughout the only 87 times I've watched the Christmas Special I've rolled my eyes at the Ouija board getting so much airtime, until I read this:
I loved the show’s sly use of the Ouija board. In the years after World War I and the Spanish flu epidemic, when millions of people were grieving, there was a tremendous interest in spiritualism.
I guess that makes sense, actually - between the Spanish Flu and WWI (or as RRTHUR calls it, "the war") there was death all around; the odds of anyone having some friends or family recently dead were pretty good, ergo there desire to reach out to them would be pretty strong.
