We begin with the Fab Four’s first No. 1 hit, “Please Please Me,” recorded on Nov. 26, 1962.Last month I pointed out tat we should prepare for an 8-year onslaught re: 50-year anniversaries of everything The Beatles did, and today begins Brow Beat over at Slate, kicking things of with the great Please Please Me, which they recorded 50 years ago today and became their first #1 hit.

My favorite thing about the song is in the final verse when John Lennon massively garbles the words, but the take is so exciting they say "fuck it" and leave it as is. Superslice!
