October 3

When I was a kid and would read about Bobby Thomson's Shot Heard 'Round the World I'd wonder "why the hell is this considered the biggest home run ever - heck, Mazeroski's homer WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!"

Of course, the second I moved to New York I got it.

Here's a bit about the guy who taped Russ Hodges' famous call, as told by his kid.

Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round The World" was heard often at our home, each time I asked my dad to tell me once more how he saved the call. He kept the original tape safely boxed up, instead playing one of the Chesterfield records of the call that Hodges' sponsor pressed as gifts to its dealers.
Besides The Shot Heard 'Round the World, October 3 is for some reason a big day throughout history.

And yes, faithful readers, it was also the date of this important moment in history:
4) If you promise to not talk about old boyfriends I promise not to talk about how my first “ménage a moi” session was to Catherine Bach on a balmy October day after school.
"Hi Xmastime. Remember me? Let's see those hands!"
