It's hard to imagine anybody more New York than Pete Hamill, who just died at 85. I'v only read one of his books but his presence was felt constantly in the city for the 15 years I lived there.
A rundown in the Daily News of his life is fairly stunning - some I knew, some I just learned.
Can't recommend the HBO doc Breslin and Hamill: Deadline Artists enough.
