Ah Yes, Some... GOOD Grief?

1) Who’s the fucking wizard at ABC who, at the Christmas movie scheduling meeting, came up with kicking things off by showing A Charlie Brown Christmas on November 28? What the fuck? THE number one Christmas show to watch and you know what…why don’t we get this thing outta the way before December even hits so we can make room for new classics like Christmas at the Mall 3 and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (The Quickening)? Who signed off on this – I checked and saw that tv has over 75 Xmas movies to fucking show in the next month; how the FUCK could the Charlie Brown one not be the goddam climax to all this??! Why is this not shown on Xmas Eve? November 28??!!?! Are you kidding me? I can live with them kicking off the Xmas season early, but why not save the best for last instead of vice versa? This is like fucking Jessica Alba before you’re even horny or hard so that you can hurry up and get to jerking off to the Sears catalog. - XMASTIME

Pretty much since I started this blog I've bitched and moaned about television airing Charlie Brown specials way far in advance of their respective holidays, and that problem may finally be over now:

Want to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown this Halloween? Or A Charlie Brown Christmas? There’s an app for that— specifically Apple TV+. The classic Peanuts specials, which have aired on broadcast TV for decades, will soon have an exclusive streaming home on Apple’s subscription-based TV platform.

But perhaps in a nod to ensuring wide access, Apple is planning to make some of the classic specials free to all — even nonsubscribers — for a limited time. Great Pumpkin will stream outside of the TV+ paywall from October 30 through November 1. Similarly, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will stream for free from November 25 through November 27. A Charlie Brown Christmas will have a free window from December 11 to December 13.

Not sure why they were doing so well up until the dates on the Christmas special but hey, it's a start. I also guess people initially lost their shit and had to be reminded of this:

Meaning that it's not exactly as sacred as we like to think it is, and more people will probably end up watching it this year.

Meanwhile, enjoy my 2008 live-blogging of the kinda-bullshitty Peanuts Valentine's Day special. You're welcome!
