A lot of Only Fools and Horses fans are upset that after the perfect ending of the Christmas Trilogy in 1996, they came back with three episodes in 2001-2003. While I agree that the Time On Our Hands episode was indeed a perfect ending, I'm glad they made the later shows simply because I love the show and if I can get more of it I'm happy to.
HOWEVER.
They had a chance to stick the landing perfectly with the final FINAL episode, Sleepless in Peckham, when at the end Rodney asks Del Boy is Freddie Robdal, who they found out was Rodney's real father, was anything like him:
Del: Freddie the Frog was a professional burglar. He was disloyal to his friends. He was a womaniser, a home-breaker, a con-man, a thief, a liar, and a cheat... So no Rodney, you're nothing like him.
It was a beautiful, wonderful, heart-warming moment, ALL the feels, and they were at the half-yard line; all they needed to coast in to the end zone was go to the closing credits. But for some reason they end with a throwaway joke line referencing a previous scene, which lingers badly. It's just like The Beatles putting a bow on their astonishing career at the end of Abbey Road with Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End, only to for some reason come back after a pause with the 29-second long Her Majesty nonsense. Why? Grrrr.
