Gord Lewis, guitar player from the legendary Canadian pop-punk band Teenage Head, was found dead yesterday.
Of course I wanna make this all about me and gasp! at this happening mere months after my industry-shattering release the TAKE MY TEENAGE HEAD AT 25 BOX SET!!
But to be serious, Teenage Head has a special place in my heart - even though I had never heard of them when I originally recorded Take My teenage Head.
To whit, from 2010:
I've probably actually bought 3 cds in the dozen years I've lived in New York, and none is more cherished than the self-titled Teenage Head, a veritable compendium of post-punk/power-pop "let's rock!!" slices released some 30 years ago. A few years earlier I had released an ep titled Take My Teenage Head (still some copies left FOR SALE!!!! BUY NOW!!) having never heard of the band; one afternoon while living in Oxford I got a call from a friend of mind who had found a record by a band called Teenage Head in the Richmond public library, and he was so knocked out by the song he called me up to play it over the phone. And it WAS great, and the name stuck in my head, and I walked right into the album quite by accident on Bleeker Street a few years later.
Here's the song my buddy played over the phone that day. I still love it.
Rock on, Teenage Head.
