Buddy & The Beatles

Anyone who loves both Buddy Holly and The Beatles like I do has spent waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time dreaming of what would have come out of a collaboration between the two if of course Buddy hadn't died at only 22 years old. Holly is unique among that first generation of rockers in that he almost immediately moved forward to evolve his sound, whereas most of the other greats stuck to their bread & butter for decades after they'd hit the jackpot. Meanwhile, Buddy had already experimented with soon-to-be-standard studio practices such as multi-tracking and had even added strings to a song shortly before his death; there's simply no way to think anything other than he would've continued pushing himself forward musically & production-wise until he'd run into The Beatles, creating a perfect storm of incredible talent and a thirst for experimentation & musical evolution rarely seen over the last 64 years, much less at the time.

If you're at all interested in any of this then treat yourself to this fantastic episode of one of my favorite podcasts.
