I'm Not Joe Strummer

The first time I ever recorded something for real in a studio setting Rrthur (YES, ladies, THAT Rrthur!!!!!) made fun of me because I insisted on holding my beloved Fender Telecaster while doing my vocal parts; partly because it just felt way more comfortable than singing without it, and I’d once read that’s how Joe Strummer recorded for The Clash, that you can even hear his unplugged Telecaster thrashing away under his vocals on their first album.

Since Joe Strummer was my guitar hero I used all of this to make me feel better/less self-conscious throughout my singing career. Of course then I see video like this and get upset to see Joe left me behind in the the dust and obviously went on to feel perfectly fine singing in a studio without his guitar but that’s only for a split second before I remember oh yeah motherfucker, you are not Joe Strummer.
