Trump & Taxes, but Not What You Think

Trump is getting desperate so he's pulling out another tax cut, i.e. cutting taxes on Social Security. So of course Democrats are "reeling" on how to combat this:
While policy experts have taken issue with the ideas, Mr. Trump’s pronouncements have real political appeal, at times putting Democrats on their back foot. Nevada’s two Democratic senators and its powerful culinary union have endorsed ending taxes on tips. The AARP supports tax relief for seniors receiving Social Security benefits, though it has not taken a position on Mr. Trump’s proposal.

“You do have to scratch your head a little bit when someone’s going around offering free lunches everywhere,” said Jesse Lee, a Democratic consultant and former Biden White House official. “We’re all for people having their lunch, but we have to raise taxes on the wealthy to pay for it.”

"Back foot"? If the Democrats wanna keep their momentum going and really send Trump into a tailspin they should jump on this idea and say "thanks Trump, great idea!" and say they wanna implement it themselves.

1) it's a good idea! As the most tax-friendly American you know, even I'm like do we really need to tax elderly people on the money they worked for their whole lives? While they're living in some half-trailer somewhere counting their pennies? Really?

2) it would take all the air out of the sails for Trump in that besides negating this one good thing on his side by making it a thing on your own side, he won't know what to do if he can't reply by screaming what a Communist scumbag you are, and you can probably even pick off a few of his voters who would rather burn their own houses down than agree with Democrats.

Again, I understand 99.9% of what comes out of Trump's mouth is repulsive and stupid, but Democrats would be smart to latch onto this 0.01% and make it their own. Besides, of course the second a minor celebrity casually mentions he's against the plan Trump will flip-flop on it anyway.
