Herbie Flowers, who played the iconic sliding bass line on Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, has died.
I'm embarrassed to admit that as someone who's loved this song for 35+ years and claims to have an interest in such things, it had never even occurred to me to even wonder who played bass on it. Which is crazy considering both how great that it is and how many hours I've probably spent over the decades listening to & thinking about the song, but here we are. Life is strange.
Anyway, you've earned a rest on the wild side, Herbie Flowers. I'm grateful somebody else thought to put together this video years & years ago.
