I've mentioned several times about having to white-knuckle it when I'm walking across the terrifying highway overpass walkway at the Metro 3x a week for 3 years now, but yesterday I was pleased to find myself walking off the train with Ray Davies' beautiful Waterloo Sunset in my ears.
I thought about the scene Ray must have imagined that inspired the story of Terry and Julie, and the romance as they ‘pass over the river’, which I'd imagine looks something like this:
I was glad to assume Ray's voice would help me over such a bridge, until I was brutally reminded what the view from my actual bridge looked like:
I still made it over, obviously, but I don't think there's ever gonna be a Waterloo Sunset made from anybody coming off that train.
Instead, let's all be grateful we live in a world with Ray Davies and Waterloo Sunset.
