Questions. I Have Them.

Why is it called a "sportcoat"? The last thing I think of when I put one on is "gee, I should play some sports!" The main objective while wearing one seems to be to not get it dirty, which hardly seems the equal of fun or athletic activity to me, therein belieing it's very name.  Hmm.
