Xmastime Multiple Choice

The problem with The Apartment episode of Seinfeld, the 10th episode, is that anybody who's lived in New York City for more than 5 minutes knows that the second Jerry heard there was a rent-controlled apartment in his building going for only $400 then instead of just turning around and offering it to Elaine he:
A) Would've just moved into the apartment himself, which would've stopped the episode before it started

B) Would've decided "hey you know what I guess me & Elaine should be together after all" and they get hitched and move into the $400 apartment together forever, which would'e stopped the entire series before it started
